Charlotte Roller Girls and OrthoCarolina Partner for 2010 Season

The Charlotte Roller Girls announced that OrthoCarolina, one of the nation’s leading orthopedic practices with offices across the region, has signed on as a corporate partner of the Charlotte-based roller derby league. As part of the partnership, OrthoCarolina will serve as the league’s official physician.

“We are proud to announce our partnership with OrthoCarolina,” said Charlotte Roller Girls president Emily Kupprion. “There is no better fit than a roller derby league partnering with the leading orthopedic practice in the region. With any full contact sport, injuries will sometimes occur. Knowing that OrthoCarolina is there to put our players back together gives us the confidence to play even harder.”

When attending a Charlotte Roller Girls home bout, the OrthoCarolina partnership will be hard to miss. The approximately 1,200 sq. ft area in the center of the track will showcase an OrthoCarolina floor decal which has been tailored to the sport of roller derby. Included are X-ray images of a foot on a roller skate and an elbow complete with protective pads. The players will also sport identical OrthoCarolina branded helmets.

“Logos on the playing surface and helmet sponsorships might be common place in other sports, but for roller derby this is a first,” continued Kupprion. “This is groundbreaking. OrthoCarolina is a leader in its field and now it’s also a leader in roller derby partnerships.”

“OrthoCarolina is proud to have been selected as the team physician for the Charlotte Roller Girls. What makes this partnership so compelling, is their commitment to the local community,” said Blair Primis, Director of Marketing for OrthoCarolina. “Their dedication to the local area is symbolic of the efforts and commitments we value as an organization as well.”

Organized in 2006, the Charlotte Roller Girls is a women’s flat track roller derby league formed with the purpose of promoting the sport of roller derby and enriching the Charlotte community. It is a not-for-profit organization that volunteers its time and a contributes a portion of all home bout proceeds to local charitable causes.

Its season runs from February through December with home bouts being held at the Grady Cole Center. The home season kicks off on March 6. Advance tickets are on sale at www.charlotterollergirls.com or in person at The Common Market. The Grady Cole Center is located at 310 N. Kings Drive.
