For the second consecutive year, the Charlotte Roller Girls will show its support for the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) by participating in AIDS Walk Charlotte. On Saturday, May 2, members of the team, many on roller skates, will lead a group of more than 3,000 caring individuals on the two-mile walk. This event raises funds for RAIN’s programs and services which are available to Charlotte community.

In front of a full house at the Grady Cole Center, the Charlotte Roller Girls, the Queen City’s only all-female, flat track roller derby league, fell short of a win in a physical match against the River City Rollergirls. Charlotte was in control for much of the bout, but the Richmond-based team rallied in the closing seconds to pull off a come from behind 85-84 victory.
On the heels of a decisive victory in front of a sold out crowd, the Charlotte Roller Girls are gearing up for its second home bout of the 2009 season. On April 18 at the Grady Cole Center, Charlotte’s only all-female flat track roller derby league will take on the River City Rollergirls of Richmond, VA. It marks the first time the two leagues have faced off against each other.
